Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A large-scale racket producing and distributing adulterated mustard oil, deceptively mimicking the original with artificial scents, has been busted in Serampore, West Bengal. Authorities successfully prevented an estimated 5,000 liters of this harmful fake oil from entering the market, following a swift operation by the Enforcement Branch. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the illicit operation, which highlights a serious threat to public health.
The breakthrough occurred on Thursday night when officers from the Enforcement Branch of the Chandannagar Police Commissionerate received a tip-off from confidential sources. Acting on this crucial information, a joint raid was immediately launched in collaboration with the police of Srirampur Police Station in the area adjacent to Bangihati Delhi Road. The coordinated effort proved successful, leading to significant recoveries and arrests.
During the raid, law enforcement officials recovered a substantial quantity of the adulterated product, specifically 280 tins, each containing 15 kg of the fake oil. Beyond the finished product, the team also seized six cartons filled with adulterated chemicals, various color cartons, and five punching machines. These tools and materials are believed to have been instrumental in the large-scale production and packaging of the counterfeit mustard oil.
According to preliminary investigations, the arrested individuals had been engaged in this fraudulent activity for a considerable period. Their method involved bringing in rice bran oil, a much cheaper alternative, and then mixing it with various adulterants and chemicals. These additives were designed to replicate the distinctive smell and taste of genuine mustard oil, deceiving unsuspecting consumers.
Once produced, the adulterated oil was then systematically distributed to various shops throughout the area, posing a significant health risk to the public. The successful exposure of this entire racket marks a crucial victory for consumer safety and regulatory enforcement. The prompt action by the Enforcement Branch prevented widespread consumption of the harmful product.
